Donald Trump and Twitter
The evolution of technology has allowed the platforms of which politicians reach their audience to be more connected. Our current president Donald Trump is a great example of this. Before when a president had something they wanted to say they would hold a press conference on the television or radio and the news stations would pick it up and carry out that message to the public. The use of social media has changed that game.
Donald Trump has made history in one sense over the way he utilizes his social media account, Twitter. Whether it is truly him who is typing and creating these tweets or one of his employees, he is still making a statement with every tweet. His tweets are not just informational tweets, but they are also heavy with personal opinions. That is something that is very uncommon for the president. It also brings up many questions. For example, is this type of informal tweet about important news a good way to share the information or is it actually a genius way to keep people who typically don't stay informed, informed.
Twitter has become such an prominent part of our society and how we keep up with information. It is so important that the president uses it as one of his main sources of communication with the public. This shows just how much our society is shaped by the introduction of social media.
I don't know about you but I go on Twitter about 100 times a day and every time I get on someone is either going off about how much Trump uses Twitter or I see Trump constantly on his Twitter or retweeting things he should not be. Yes I agree with you that Trump made history with the use of Twitter as a new way to address the media but I think he goes about it in the wrong way. He announces major political decision on Twitter when they should be handled in a more dignified and respectful way. But yes Twitter has become such an important part of society because this is how more people get a lot of their information and communicate with people. this definitely shaped the way social media plays in our society.
ReplyDeleteI think that the President is the last person who should be in control of a twitter account. I do think what he has done has changed and shocked the media because we have never seen a politician call out celebrities, share policies, retweet inappropriate thing and throw tantrums on social media. Things on twitter are pretty permanent. You can delete a tweet but there is no telling who screen shot it or shared it an Trump continues to get himself in trouble with this topic. He doesn't seem to know the fine line between what is appropriate and what isn't. I do appreciate politicians that are willing to interact and share news with us but I do not agree that Trump has done anything but go about Twitter the complete wrong way.
